The December program is the season’s discovery. Joseph Marx, a leading voice of Austrian late Romanticism, remains largely unheard in the United States, and this concert presents his song cycle Transfigured Year framed by music from his autumnal orchestral world, with mezzo-soprano Kayleigh Decker as soloist. After intermission, Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 6, the "Pathétique," completed just days before the composer’s death, brings the evening to its close. Together the two halves form a meditation on farewell, transformation, and the turning of the year. Program Joseph Marx: Autumnal Revelries & Transfigured Year Kayleigh Decker, mezzo-soprano Tchaikovsky: Symphony No. 6, Op. 74 in B minor, "Pathetique" Johannes Müller Stosch, conductor.
